Voice Cabling

With the introduction of VOIP some years ago we are doing less and less standalone voice cabling but there are still many phone systems that are not VOIP, so traditional voice cabling is still needed. We can install CAT 3, 5e or 6 cabling depending on the installed base of cable and type of phone system. We’ve wired phone systems for Avaya, NEC, Panasonic, Nortel Meridian, Toshiba, Norstar, Lucent, AT&T, Comdial, Cisco, 3Com, Fujitsu, Inter-Tel and Plantronics to name a few. Many customers are now requesting standard data patch panels instead of the more traditional 110, 66 or Krone blocks but we can install whatever you prefer.

Data Cabling

This is where it all started, the low voltage industry. It grew from there as the industry changed. Like any other discipline, data cabling and network cabling are both an art and a science. The art side is making the physical cabling orderly, clean and making the complete job look great. The science side is installing the cabling Top Line (National Electrical Code) and standard (568) so your network performs at the speed and through-put it was designed to run at. We are master designers and installers of structured cabling using either plenum or PVC cable. We can install CAT 5e, 6 and higher grade cabling. Top Line Data Cabling, LLC is an Ortronics Certified Installer in Connecticut. We can install Hubbell, Siemon, Leviton or any other manufacturer of your choice. Additionally we work closely with Chatsworth, Berk-Tek, AMP, Belden/CDT, Wiremold/legrand, Mohawk and Commscope.

Backbone Cabling

Generally speaking this type of cabling is used to tie floors together in multi-floor scenarios, to connect an IDF(s) to an MDF or building to building, etc. Backbone cabling comes in two main flavors, copper of fiber. CAT 5e, CAT 6 or higher for cooper cabling and 50 micron or 62.5 micron can be used on the fiber side.

Fiber comes in 6, 12, 24 or 48 strands. Most new installs use 50 micron. SC, ST or LC connectors. Top Line can install either cooper or fiber depending on your needs and budget.

Complete Server Room Setup

Top Line can spec out, design and install your entire server room including all electrical feeds to cabinets and racks, proper grounding of cabinets and racks, cable ties from one rack to another, cable management, cable tray and both horizontal and vertical cable management for patch panels.

Demarc Extensions

Every new commercial install needs a demarc extension and ironically it is one of the elements that is missed or not thought about until the end of the job. Top Line can install any type of demarc extension you need from either a 25, 50, 100+ pair dial-tone extension to a cable for your DSL or cable feed. We also use a special Quabbin cable for T1 circuits.

CATV Cabling

Cable TV cabling is a staple in most homes and now most commercial buildings for conference room TVs, lunch rooms, executive offices, etc. Top Line can install this type of cabling in any environment. Additionally we can install repeaters where needed if distances are over the limit or there are a lot of locations that need to be installed. A patch panel system can be installed in an environment that calls for many locations as well.

Scope Of Work/Request For Proposal Creation.

Top Line can create a standard scope of work prior to a large infrastructure upgrade or new build out. We will work very closely with you to make sure all your bases are covered and that when you go out to bid with the job you are getting consistent pricing with little to no change order work.

Proper Labeling

This is a very important step and one that is often missed or done with a black Sharpie pen. All patch panels, patch cables and jacks are machine labeled for a very professional and long term look from Top Line.

Documentation

At some point, for some reason a cable will just stop working correctly either due to age, environmental issues, etc. With proper documentation such as wiring paths used, as-builts, and final floor plans marked with jack numbers for easy location, a Network Administrator’s job becomes very easy. Top Line can create all these above documents for your records.

Certification

Certification of a network, specifically the physical cabling is the last and final step in the process of insuring you have a 100% solid, trouble free network. This process involves using a properly calibrated cable scanner such as an OmniScanner from Fluke and running tests such as Wiremap, ACR, NEXT, etc. on each installed cable. Most scanners will allow the user to not only save the test results to disk but to print out certification reports per cable to be able to give to the customer. This step is often confused with a simple continuity test that most other companies do. A continuity test is done with a $50 device, a cable certification is done with a $5,000 plus device. They are apples and oranges.

Wireless LAN

Wireless technology is huge. Company office space, homes, schools, hospitals all have them now. Top Line does a lot of WAP installs including design, install and testing. We can go from the physical wiring of the cable to the access point to the install and configuration of the access point itself be it Ortronics, Cisco, Aruba, Linksys, etc.

Telcom Cable Removal

This is a step that is often overlooked but has become a critical piece to any install that involves typically older buildings or a space that has a lot of tenants over the years. The new code specifically calls out for the old telcom cabling to be removed so this is really no longer an option, it’s a must. Top Line can properly demo all old cabling without disrupting or cutting “live” cables that might go to other active spaces in a multi-tenant space.
